"MVNC Athletes Earn Verizon Academic All-District Honors"

   Two Mount Vernon Nazarene College athletes were recently selected to the Verizon Academic All-District IV Teams for their respective sports.

   Kenny Chaffin, a 6-foot-6 junior forward from Marysville, Ohio, was named to the Verizon Academic All-District IV Second Team. The former All-Ohioan from Marysville High School leads the men's basketball team in scoring (21.8 points per game) and rebounding (7.3 boards per game), and he is also the team leader in steals (42) and blocked shots (50). He is shooting 55.9 percent from the field (255-of-456), 42.9 percent from beyond the three-point arc (36-of-84), and 75.7 percent at the free throw line (109-of-144).

   Chaffin, who is a Health/Physical Education double major, has posted a 3.45 grade point average. He has been named to the MVNC Dean's List (3.50 or higher) for three semesters.

   Jenni Davis, a 5-foot-5 sophomore guard from Cardington, Ohio, was selected to the Verizon Academic All-District IV Third Team for women's basketball. The former standout at Cardington-Lincoln High School is averaging 11.4 points and 1.9 rebounds per game for the Lady Cougars. She has also recorded 91 assists and 48 steals. She is shooting 39.2 percent from the field (91-of-232), 36.4 percent from three-point land (56-of-154), and 79.3 percent from the charity stripe (69-of-87).

   Davis, who is an Integrated Language Arts major, has posted a 3.79 grade point average. She has been named to the MVNC Dean's List all three semesters. She was the only sophomore to make any of the three teams.

   The Verizon Academic All-District IV awards are for NCAA Division II, III, or NAIA players in Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Alabama. An athlete must be at least a sophomore with a grade point average of at least 3.20 to be eligible for the award.
