
Kenny Chaffin, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's basketball team, has been selected as the American Mideast Conference Player of the Week for his efforts during the week of February 5-11.
Chaffin, a 6-foot-6 junior forward from Marysville, Ohio, led the Cougars to three conference victories as the former Marysville High School standout averaged 26.0 points and 8.7 rebounds per game. He also shot 71.1 percent from the field (32-of-45) and 81.3 percent from the free throw line (13-of-16).
Chaffin began the week with 33 points, nine rebounds, and three blocked shots as MVNC defeated Ohio Dominican College 105-88. He was 13-of-19 from the field against the Panthers and 7-of-7 at the charity stripe.
In a 107-76 victory at Cedarville University, Chaffin went 12-of-15 from the field as he led the Cougars with 29 points and eight rebounds. In that contest, MVNC outscored the Yellow Jackets 60-25 in the second half.
Chaffin wrapped up the week with 16 points and nine rebounds in the Cougars' 99-90 upset victory over Walsh University, ranked #17 in NAIA Division II at the time. Chaffin was 7-of-11 from the field, and he also recorded two steals.
For the season, Chaffin leads MVNC in scoring (21.6 points per game) and rebounding (7.1 rebounds per contest). He is also the team leader in blocked shots (49) and steals (42).
The Cougars are currently 16-13 overall and 9-8 in the AMC. MVNC will wrap up the regular season on Saturday when the team travels to Urbana University for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
