
Brian Bumgarner, a member of the Mount Vernon Nazarene College men's golf team, was selected as the National Christian College Athletic Association Player of the Week for his efforts during the week of April 9-15.
Bumgarner, a freshman from Westerville, Ohio, led the Cougars to the Urbana University Invitational title on Thursday and Friday as he finished as the individual runner-up with a two-day total of 153. MVNC won the tournament by 14 strokes over the nearest team.
Bumgarner, a former standout at Worthington Christian High School, has led the Cougars in scoring at four of the team's six tournaments so far this spring. He is averaging a team-best 76.6 strokes per round after 11 rounds.
MVNC is currently 59-13 overall this year. The Cougars are also ranked #22 in the latest NAIA national poll. The team will host their annual invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Apple Valley Golf Club in Howard, Ohio.
