Mel SevernsInducted during the 2000-2001 school yearMel Severns was a four-year member of the MVNC baseball team from 1982-1985 and one of the most powerful hitters in the program's history. During his career, the Cougars posted an overall record of 102-55. As a senior, Severns put together one of the best seasons of any Cougar baseball player as he batted .429 with a school-record 18 home runs, 65 RBI, 54 runs scored, and 15 doubles in leading MVNC to a 36-10 mark. For his efforts that season, he became the first MVNC athlete in any sport to earn NAIA First Team All-American status. He was also selected as the Mid-Ohio Conference and NAIA District 22 Player of the Year. For his career, Severns still ranks second in school history in home runs (28), fourth in triples (11), and eighth in runs batted in (130). Severns also served as the Cougars' coach in 1989 and led MVNC to its first National Christian College Athletic Association national title by going 35-12.
