Ron HolmesInducted during the 2000-2001 school year
Ron Holmes, who played for the Cougars from 1988-1991, was considered by many as the best
and most talented basketball player ever to play at MVNC. He was just 418 points
shy of the school's all-time scoring record of 2,242 points entering his senior
year. However, on September 5, 1991, Holmes and his teammate, Darrin Brooks,
were involved in a fatal car crash that prematurely ended their
lives.Holmes still holds eight MVNC records including most points in a season (706 in 1989-1990) and highest career scoring average (18.2 points per game). The Cougars posted a 65-37 record during his three years on the team, and they finished as the runner-up at the National Christian College Athletic Association national tournament in 1989. Holmes earned many honors during his three seasons including NCCAA First Team All-American, NAIA First Team All-District twice, and All-Mid-Ohio Conference First Team twice. He was also named to ten all-tournament teams, and his #30 is the only MVNC men's basketball jersey to be retired.
