- Presidential Search Committee Members Announced
- April 24, 2012
To provide support in the search for the next President of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, the Board of Trustees Executive Committee has selected a Search Profile Development Taskforce (SPDT). The Executive Committee has been working diligently to select a taskforce that represents a broad cross-section of the university community. Each member of the taskforce was selected because of their position, level of engagement in the campus community, and the fact that they are well-respected members of the MVNU community.
The members of the SPDT include:
- Mr. John Ballenger ('95), Director of Student Success
- Dr. Margaret Britt, Professor of Human Resources Management
- Dr. Karen Doenges, Professor of Mathematics
- Rev. Joe Noonen ('75), Assistant to the Chaplain for Mission and Ministry Opportunities
- Mrs. Tricia Pokosh ('95), Chair, Director of Human Resources
- Dr. Brock Schroeder, Associate Vice President for Graduate and Professional Studies
- Mr. Jameson Seymour, Outgoing SGA President
- Rev. Steve Ward, MVNU Trustee
Because the participation from the campus community is imperative as we move forward with the Presidential Search, the SPDT is tasked with compiling questions for review by the Executive Committee for inclusion in a survey that will be distributed to trustees, faculty, staff, students, and selected alumni. The questions may include, but are not limited to, preferred professional attributes and characteristics of the next president, challenges the next president may face, leadership qualities required from this position, and other questions the taskforce deems essential. The Board of Trustees Executive Committee will determine the scope and reach of the survey distribution.
The survey will be open from May 7 -- 11 and sent by email to the University's constituent groups. The Board of Trustees will review survey results at their May 19 meeting prior to Commencement and the Presidential Profile will then be generated with information garnered from the survey.
- June 15, 2012
The Presidential Search Committee has completed the development of the Presidential Profile, and the nomination and application process is now open through August 15, 2012.
Over the past several weeks, the committee reviewed the surveys that were distributed to trustees, faculty, staff, students, and alumni. The responses received from the campus community provided timely and relevant thoughts and perspectives as aspects of the profile were discussed and analyzed in preparation for the presidential search. The Presidential Profile includes an introduction to MVNU, institutional strengths and priorities, challenges and opportunities the next president may face, and leadership qualities required for this position. The Presidential Profile can be viewed at
http://mvnu.edu/presidentialsearch.
Thank you for your continued prayers as we move through the timeline that was released by the Board of Trustees this spring. Our work is consistent with the
schedule of steps outlined in the timeline. You will note the Presidential Search website includes the presidential transition framework and tracks the
progress of our efforts. The website also defines the process for submission of nominations and applications
(http://www.mvnu.edu/presidentialsearch/nomination.asp).
Thank you, again, for your support during this process.
- August 2, 2012
Thank you for your prayers as we continue our work through the process of selecting the next president of MVNU. The Presidential Search Committee met last week. The input of trustees, faculty, staff, students, and alumni through the surveys completed in the spring has been invaluable as we shape the selection process. The survey responses were thoroughly examined and provided the essential elements of the Presidential Profile.
The Presidential Search Committee will continue to use this profile to guide our work as we integrate each of the defined leadership qualities to carry out our next steps: 1) creation of a rubric for applicant evaluation, 2) selection of applicants for interviewing, 3) formation of questions for applicants being interviewed, and 4) selection of candidates to be presented to the Board of Trustees in November.
Thanks to the participation of trustees, faculty, staff, students, and selected alumni through the survey and to the diligent work of the Presidential Search Committee, we remain on task and expect to proceed according to the initial timeline set by the Board of Trustees.
- August 16, 2012
Over 30 applications for the MVNU presidency position have been received and the Presidential Search Committee now begins evaluating each one with intentional emphasis placed on correlations to the leadership qualities defined in the presidential profile.
Thank you for your continued prayers that the Lord will guide the leadership throughout the transition; that the Presidential Search Committee remains unified in purpose and focused on each task at hand; and for faculty, staff, and students as preparations for the fall semester gain momentum moving toward the first day of classes.
- September 28, 2012
Thank you for your continued prayers and interest in the search for the seventh president of MVNU. The Presidential Search Committee has now completed a thorough review of all applications and recently met to narrow the highly-qualified pool. A short list of candidates has been identified, and extensive reference and background checks are underway.
Following completion of this, interviews will be scheduled. We are on schedule and hope to announce the new president at the fall board of trustees meeting in November. The work of the search committee has reflected a commitment to due diligence.
We are encouraged by the strength of the candidates and look forward to the interview phase of the search.
- November 2, 2012
