About MVNU

Overview:

Established in 1968, Mount Vernon Nazarene University is an intentionally Christian teaching university that offers a liberal arts education leading to associate, bachelor's, or master's degrees in more than eighty academic pursuits. We strongly believe in developing the whole individual--academically, spiritually, emotionally, and physically. Through a nurturing faculty and staff who are experts in their fields, MVNU students receive personalized attention and mentoring.

In addition to being prepared for successful and meaningful careers, MVNU students are also ready to change their world with the love of Christ through a lifestyle of service. This is due in part to the outstanding learning and service opportunities provided to them at MVNU. Our students gain valuable cross-cultural experience through both academic- and service-oriented trips locally, across the United States, and around the globe.

With a strong focus on community, MVNU becomes a second home and second family for a majority of our students. They participate in chapel services, which are offered three times a week, as well as in small groups. Through Campus Ministries, Student Life, and the Lecture/Artist Series, our students are exposed to a wide array of perspectives and viewpoints throughout the academic year, as special guests address current issues facing our students and our world and encourage relevant and engaging dialogue. Outlets for music, drama, and art are available to any student, and with nearly 50 student-run clubs and organizations, there's something for every interest. MVNU encourages exploration and discovery in the process of becoming who Christ created us to be.

As we look to our future, our focus remains grounded and centered on our mission: "Mount Vernon Nazarene University exists to shape lives through educating the whole person and cultivating Christ-likeness for lifelong learning and service." We believe this is a mission worth pursuing, and trust that God will continue to honor our commitment by equipping and enabling us to live it out in order to "change the world with the love of Christ."
