MVNU Hires Head Men's Soccer Coach
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio — Mount Vernon Nazarene University announces the hire of Zach Ganzberg to the position of Head Men's Soccer Coach. Ganzberg will begin on June 1, 2017, for the full-time position in the MVNU athletic department.
"Zach's heart to mentor young men through the game of soccer was evident and his desire to disciple players in their faith was foundational during his interview," said MVNU Athletic Director Keith Veale. "He has a clear understanding of our competition in the Crossroads League and I think he will do some great things here at MVNU. I am excited for the next chapter of MVNU soccer under Zach's leadership."
Ganzberg comes to MVNU after spending three years as Assistant Coach and Recruiting Coordinator of the Men's Soccer team at Bethel College in Mishawaka, Ind. Ganzberg's duties at Bethel College included recruiting, compliance-related issues, training session preparation and execution, match analysis, and in-game tactical decision-making.
In 2014, Ganzberg helped lead the Bethel Men's Soccer team to its first national Runners-Up finish in the NCCAA National Championship. Recently, he was also selected to the NSCAA "30 under 30" program, a group comprised of the 30 best soccer coaches under 30 years old in the country. Prior to working at Bethel, Ganzberg was an Assistant Soccer Coach at Penn High School for their perennial powerhouse program. He currently serves as the Head Coach of the U16 and U17 boys teams at Jr. Irish Soccer Club, where he emphasizes player development and a positive training environment.
A native of South Bend, Ind., Ganzberg is a 2011 graduate of Bethel College with a degree in pre-law/psychology. During his time at Bethel College, Ganzberg was selected to the ESPN/CoSIDA Academic All-America Men's Soccer First Team, one of 11 soccer players selected nationwide across all levels. Ganzberg was the 2010 Crossroads League Offensive Player of the Year, a 2010 NAIA All-American, and Bethel's team leader in goals and assists with 14 and 11, respectively.
"First of all, I want to thank President Henry Spaulding, Rev. Joe Noonen, Coach Keith Veale, and the search committee for this tremendous opportunity. Through prayer and weeks of careful discernment, it became evidently clear that this was the door that God wanted me to walk through, and I'm incredibly excited to see what he has in store for me and for the MVNU men's soccer program," said Ganzberg.
"As an assistant coach in the conference, I've watched the MVNU program from afar and have always been impressed with the way the players and coaches handled themselves, both on and off the field. The roster is ready to compete now, and I'm ready to lead this impressive group of young men. My wife, Rebekah, and I are grateful and humbled to join the MVNU family, and we're eager to begin the next season of life together in a Christ-centered environment," said Ganzberg.
