Reverend Samuel Barber to Speak at Winter Commencement

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Rev. Samuel Barber, member of the Board of Trustees at MVNU, will speak at the Winter Commencement Ceremony on Dec 14, 2013, at 10:30 a.m., to celebrate the graduation of the class of 2014.
Rev. Barber is the senior pastor of Columbus Shepherd Church of the Nazarene. During his 23-year ministry career he has served churches in Louisville, Ohio; Elon, North Carolina; and Troy, Ohio, and has also held various positions at the district, regional, and general levels in Ohio and North Carolina.
Rev. Barber graduated Magna Cum Laude from Mount Vernon Nazarene University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He also received a Master of Arts in Christian Ministry from Malone University and a Master of Theological Studies from Duke University. He plans to continue his studies at the doctoral level. In 2012 he was elected by the MVNU alumni to serve as their clergy representative to the Mount Vernon Nazarene University Board of Trustees.
Rev. Barber has a long history with MVNU. He was a co-captain of the men's basketball team, earning NAIA Scholar Athlete honors in 1988 and 1989. He met his wife, Jill, as a student at Mount Vernon Nazarene University. Their son, Ross, is currently a junior at MVNU.
In addition to his responsibilities at Shepherd Church of the Nazarene, Rev. Barber serves on the steering committee for the Nazarene Motorcycle Fellowship for the global Church of the Nazarene and is a frequent speaker for retreats and workshops.
Rev. Barber is a pastor and friend to all and an eager follower of Christ. He is looking forward to celebrating the achievements of the new MVNU graduates at the Winter Commencement Ceremony.
