VeggieTales Premiere to collect shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child
October 19, 2013
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - WNZR 90.9 FM, a broadcast ministry of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, has joined hands with Gospel Supply Shop and Operation Christmas Child to host a special VeggieTales event for families.
Kids of all ages are invited to attend the premiere of the new VeggieTales video
"Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas" on Saturday, October 19.
There will be 2 showings in Thorne Performance Hall on the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University: one at 4:30pm and one at 7pm. Doors will open 15 minutes before each showing.
The premiere will celebrate the 20th anniversaries of both VeggieTales and Operation Christmas Child. This year, VeggieTales and Operation Christmas Child have teamed up to let kids around the world know that they are special and loved by God. Just as the new VeggieTales movie "Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas" reminds us that the true meaning of Christmas is the birth of Jesus Christ, shoebox gifts demonstrate God's love in a tangible way and serve as an example of His greatest gift to us.
Join WNZR in support of this outreach and help to fill the stage of Thorne Performance Hall with shoeboxes. There are no tickets required for the event. Each family is asked to pack a shoebox for Operation Christmas Child and bring along a $7.00 donation to cover shipping and handling. Staff and volunteers from Operation Christmas Child will be available to provide information about the ministry.
The National Collection for Operation Christmas Child is November 18 - 25. Knox County's local drop-off site is at Brandon Baptist Church, 13513 Sycamore Rd, Mount Vernon. WNZR has set a goal to collect 200 shoeboxes at the VeggieTales premiere to give Knox County a good start for this year's collection. Shoeboxes should be packed for either a boy or a girl in one of 3 age categories: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. The $7.00 donation for each shoebox will cover shipping and other project costs. Checks should be made payable to Samaritan's Purse with "OCC" written on the memo line.
In "Merry Larry and the True Light of Christmas," Bob and Larry are going all out to make it the best Christmas ever at the Spring Valley Mall. With music, decorations and a light show like no other, it's an all-out spectacle to outshine the competition! But a little girl with a big heart changes everything when she shows them all what Christmas is really about. "Merry Larry" also features Si Robertson from Duck Commander as 'Silas' the Narrator! Finally, "Merry Larry" debuts the new song "Light of Christmas" by Owl City featuring TobyMac.
Free shoeboxes, packing instructions, and boy/girl labels are available at Gospel Supply Shop, (117 South Main St.) and WNZR studio (800 Martinsburg Road).
