Mary Helen Fernandez Stewart is an artist who works with a needle and thread. She speaks through her art using exotic dyed fabrics, beads, embellishments, and found objects. She seeks to open up a dialogue between the viewer and the art that allows her to integrate historical, present, and future voices to communicate with all generations. Stewart has been making quilts and other works of art through fabric for more than 25 years. She has shown her work all over the United States and in Australia, Mexico, New Zealand, France, England, Italy, and Greece.
The exhibit that Stewart will be displaying at the Schnormeier gallery is called "Hand-Stitched Memories." For more information, visit http://maryhelenfernandezstewart.blogspot.com/.
