MVNU hosts Dr. John Fea for Constitution Day

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene University will host Dr. John Fea of Messiah College as the opening guest of the 2013-2014 Lecture/Artist Series on September 17, at 7 p.m. Fea's presentation, "Was America Founded as a Christian Nation?," will take place at 7 p.m. in the Thorne Performance Hall inside the R.R. Hodges Chapel on the campus of MVNU. The event is free and open to the public. A question and answer session will follow the presentation.
John Fea is Associate Professor of American History and Chair of the Department of History at Messiah College in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Fea is a prolific scholar and the author of four books including the upcoming Why Study History?: Reflecting on the Importance of the Past. His 2011 book, Was America Founded as a Christian Nation?: A Historical Introduction, earned widespread praise from historians and established Fea's reputation as one of the foremost scholars on Christianity's role in the founding of the United States. The book was selected as Religion Book of the Year (Gold Medalist) by the Association of Independent Publishers, a Choice Outstanding Academic Title, and a finalist for the George Washington Book Prize.
In addition to his books, Fea has published articles in leading history journals, earned a number of prestigious grants and awards for his research, and spoken frequently at academic conferences and universities throughout the United States. He is also the author of a popular history-themed blog, "The Way of Improvement Leads Home: Reflections at the Intersection of American History, Religion, and Academic Life."
Prior to joining Messiah College in 2002, Fea served as a Lilly Fellow in the Humanities and the Arts at Valparaiso University. He earned his Ph.D. in American History from Stony Brook University in 1999, as well as an M.A. in Church History and an M.Div. in Divinity from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in 1992.
The MVNU Lecture/Artist Series is pleased to host this event in conjunction with the MVNU History & Political Science Department, and in recognition of the United States' Constitution Day. All members of the MVNU and Knox County communities are invited to join us for this free event, and to participate in the question and answer session to follow Dr. Fea's presentation.
