MVNU Alumnus Marty McLeary to Throw Opening Pitch at June 22 Indianapolis Indians Game

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene University will host a special event for alumni and friends at the Indianapolis Indians game at Victory Field on June 22. Marty McLeary, a 1997 graduate of MVNU, will return to the mound for his former team to throw out the opening pitch.

McLeary pitched for the Indianapolis Indians from 2006-2007 on his way to a stint with the Pittsburgh Pirates. Originally drafted in the 10th round by the Boston Red Sox, Marty made his major league debut on August 22, 2004.

During his time at MVNU, McLeary had long list of on-the-field accomplishments. He holds the MVNU career record for lowest ERA, threw 11 consecutive strike-outs in one game, was named to the NAIA All-American Second Team, and was NCCAA District Player of the Year. During his brief time in the majors, McLeary was the Rolaids Relief Man Award Winner in July 2004. He made a total of 12 appearances, compiled a 2-0 record with 5.28 ERA, and threw 17 strikeouts in 29 innings.

You are invited to join McCleary and a other MVNU Alumni and friends at Victory Field on Saturday, June 22 at 7 p.m. The event coincides with the 28th General Assembly & Conventions of the Church of the Nazarene, taking place at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
