MVNU Names Barney Cochran Vice President for Academic Affairs

MOUNT VERNON, OH - Mount Vernon Nazarene University has named Dr. Barney Cochran as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Cochran has served as the Dean of MVNU's School of Arts and Humanities since 2007.
Since joining the MVNU faculty in 1999, Dr. Cochran has served the University in in a variety of important roles. In addition to his leadership of the School of Arts and Humanities, he is also the Director of MVNU's Honors Program. Among other assignments, Dr. Cochran has served as the Chair of the Lecture Artist Committee and as Interim Chair of the Department of History. He was instrumental in the recent revision of MVNU's General Education requirements, serving as the Chair of that Task Force. In 2011, he received the President's Award as MVNU Faculty Member of the Year. Dr. Cochran has a Ph.D. in Early Modern European History from Emory University and held faculty appointments at Concord College, Georgia State University, and Kennesaw State University before coming to MVNU.
"Dr. Cochran brings a liberal arts perspective that is framed by solid institutional rationality to this new assignment," said Dr. Henry W. Spaulding II, President of MVNU. "He will provide informed leadership to the development of traditional and nontraditional programs. Dr. Cochran is uniquely qualified to lead the faculty conversation toward enhancing the academic reputation of MVNU."

Dr. Cochran will begin transitioning into his new role immediately. He will formally assume the position in a full-time capacity on July 1, 2013.
