Mount Vernon Nazarene University is pleased to sponsor Mount Vernon's First Friday events on September 7, 2012. This evening will feature the opening of the new Buchwald Plaza, a beautiful outdoor green space for the community. Kenyon College and Central Ohio Technical College will also be sponsoring events downtown.

The grand opening of MVNU's Buchwald Plaza will include a live musical performance from the band Transformed, one of MVNU's Music and Ministry teams. Casey Cougar, MVNU's mascot, will also be on hand to greet guests and take pictures. Additionally, MVNU's Schnormeier Gallery will be open and showcasing a variety of work by the MVNU Art and Design faculty. Baker Bros., brewing Starbucks coffee, will also be open inside Hunter Hall. WNZR will broadcast all the First Friday activities live throughout the evening.

First Friday takes place in downtown Mount Vernon from 6-9 p.m. on the first Friday of every month from May through October. On September 7, the annual Rubber Duck River Race will take place at 7 p.m., just west of the viaduct. There will be more than 500 rubber ducks in the river racing to cross the finish line for various prizes. Attendees can also expect plenty of live music, beautiful classic cars, a petting zoo, food, a cornhole tournament, and much more.
