WNZR celebrates 25th Anniversary with Cake Contest

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio --WNZR, a broadcast ministry of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, will celebrate 25 years at 90.9 FM this fall. The station is currently seeking contestants for a 25th anniversary-themed amateur cake decorating contest, scheduled for Friday, October 7 in downtown Mount Vernon during First Friday. The five most creative decorators will be selected to display their cakes at the Woodward Opera House facility, 105 S. Main St., Mount Vernon. A community open house will allow attendees to vote for their favorite cake, and those votes will determine a winner based on design and creativity. Each contestant will also provide a separate sheet cake for tasting. The first 200 to attend will be able to sample the cakes.
A panel of judges will choose the five finalists on September 28. The panel includes Beth Jones of The Kenyon Inn, Gwen Dugan of East Knox Schools, Samantha Scoles of the Mount Vernon News, and Marcy Rinehart of WNZR.
Amateur cake decorators are encouraged to enter the contest by submitting photos of past cake masterpieces along with their registration to wnzr@mvnu.edu by September 23, 2011.
