January 27, 2012
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- WNZR, 90.9 FM, a broadcast ministry of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, presents its 14th annual Valentine's Banquet on Saturday, Feb. 11, at 6 p.m. in the President's Dining Room located in the Hyson Campus Center on the MVNU campus.
This year's theme is RINGS. The featured speakers are Barb and Dan Humphrey from TouchPointe Marriage & Family Resources. Barb and Dan are marriage mentors. They will share the meaning of the RINGS acronym and how a daily fifteen-minute "RINGS chat" can strengthen marriages.
"Our staff is excited about this year's theme," said Station Manager Marcy Rinehart. "We can all find fifteen minutes each day to strengthen our relationships. Barb and Dan will teach our guests how to make the most of their RINGS chat. Everyone will leave the banquet with some ideas that they can put into practice right away."
In 2010, Dan and Barb Humphrey founded TouchPointe Marriage and Family Resources as a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) corporation. They are retired educators with a combined total of sixty-five years in the public school system and have a passion for helping couples develop a meaningful relationship together. Dan and Barb have been married for over forty years. They have taught several marriage classes, worked with engaged couples, and have mentored couples who have gone through a crisis in their relationship. Over the years, Barb and Dan have participated in World-Wide Marriage Encounter, a variety of marriage retreats and conferences, and are trained as Prepare/Enrich facilitators. Barb has had extensive training in marriage and family relations through the American Association of Christian Counselors and has a diploma in Biblical Lay Counseling. In addition, she holds a permanent certificate with the State of Ohio to teach English as well as Family Relations and Consumer Science. Dan retired in 2009 as Fredericktown School superintendent. They have three children, all married, and they enjoy their eight grandchildren - all under the age of eight.
Special music entertainment will be provided by MVNU students Jon King, Ben Wong, Stephanie Grundy and a new MVNU men's a cappella choir. The students will be singing and playing a selection of love songs.
WNZR also plans to distribute over $1,000 worth of prizes throughout the evening, courtesy of local businesses. Prizes include a gift certificate to attend "Couple Talk" with TouchPointe Marriage & Family Resources, a dozen roses, three thirty-minute massages, tickets to the MVNU Women's Auxiliary Spring Retreat, dinner certificates, hair care products and certificates, jewelry, the new movie Courageous, plus several books about love and relationships.
Banquet tickets are $16 per person and include a full buffet dinner, entertainment and door prizes. The Italian meal will feature lasagna, fettuccini alfredo, green beans, tossed salad, antipasto salad, fruit salad, garlic bread sticks and chocolate layer cake for dessert.
