MVNU presents 44th performance of Handel's "Messiah"

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio - Mount Vernon Nazarene University will present the 44th annual performance of G. F. Handel's "Messiah" on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 7 p.m. This free event will take place in the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium on the MVNU campus.

The presentation will be performed by the MVNU Choral Union, faculty and guest soloists and a chamber orchestra. Three new soloists will be featured this year. They include Tyler Skidmore, a 2004 MVNU music alumnus, music specialist with the Medina, Ohio, City School District, and frequent area vocalist; Carolyn Redman, a 1989 MVNU music alumna, classical performer and adjunct voice professor at MVNU and Kenyon College; and Jennifer Whitehead, adjunct professor of voice at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio, and frequent performer in staged and concert works. David Templeton, Assistant Professor of Voice & Director of Opera at The College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina, will return for his thirteenth year as bass soloist. John Packard, an MVNU music faculty member, and guest musician James Becker will assist on trumpet. David Robinson will return as the harpsichordist for the performance.

The 160-voice Choral Union includes the combined choirs of MVNU and community singers. Professor of Music and Director of MVNU's Collegians Chorale, Dr. Robert Tocheff, will conduct the performance.
