Dr. Daniel Martin, President of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, will make a few brief remarks and formally open Hunter Hall to the public during the ribbon cutting. Mount Vernon Mayor Richard K. Mavis will also be in attendance and take part in the ceremony. Free tours will be available of both Hunter Hall and Buchwald Center, home to MVNU's Art and Design department and the Schnormeier Gallery. Faculty and students from both fields will be in each building to meet with visitors, answer questions, and provide information about the facilities and MVNU's educational opportunities. Coffee and refreshments will be available at Baker Bros., a new coffeehouse inside Hunter Hall. WNZR 90.9 FM, Knox County's hometown Christian radio station, will be broadcasting live throughout the evening.

The former "Sewing Center," which adjoins the Buchwald Center on South Main Street, Hunter Hall has undergone a complete renovation. MVNU, working with SoL Harris/Day Architecture, has designed the space to easily care for the needs of its growing nursing program for years to come. Additionally, the 26,000-square-foot facility will provide a strong means to connect with the Mount Vernon community. Hunter Hall will include a health promotion center open to the public, which will provide health screenings, immunizations and preventive care to residents of Knox County. Additionally, MVNU leadership envisions community utilization of the multi-functional classrooms and conference room for various community meetings and events.

"I believe this facility will be a centerpiece of MVNU's investment in the Mount Vernon community. It is a substantive way we can offer our expertise and efforts in assisting the city's overall objective for spurring economic development and renewal in the downtown area," said Dr. Dan Martin, President of Mount Vernon Nazarene University. "For a city that has given us so much support through the years, it is a privilege for us to be part of the solution to a viable and vibrant future for downtown."
