Brian Baby Named Curator for Schnormeier Gallery
September 2, 2011
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio --Artist and adjunct professor, Brian Baby, has been named the new curator for the Schnormeier Gallery, located on the first floor of Mount Vernon Nazarene University's Buchwald Center, which sits on the beautiful and historic Main Street. Since it's opening, the gallery has played an important role in offering local artists and students a platform from which to showcase their talent and work.
Baby, who received a BFA in sculpture from The Ohio State University in 1968, a MFA in photography from Ohio University in 1972 and a BAE in Art Education from The Ohio State University in 1977, has experience in several areas of artistry. For twenty-eight years, he taught art at Mount Vernon High School, and also served in active duty in the United States Army, where he spent a year in Vietnam and was awarded a bronze star.
As a photographer, Baby is experienced in working with a variety of cameras. The majority of Baby's imagery is executed through black and white film. Additionally, Baby works in the area of sculpture. Though his main medium is cast bronze, he has also become familiar with slip casting, a variation of ceramic sculpture. He is also fond of drawing, mainly working with graphite and colored pencils. Baby also plans to experiment with printmaking and painting in the future.
