MVNU obtains lot downtown next to Buchwald Center
January 18, 2011
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- On Friday, Jan. 14, 2011, MVNU closed on the now-vacant property to the north of the Buchwald Center in downtown Mount Vernon. The lot had owned by John Montenery since 1992, when he purchased it from Walter Rudin, as it housed Heckler’s Drugs.
The building on the property experienced a fire on Oct. 25, 2010, and has since been torn down.
Initial plans include beautiful landscaping and green elements, pedestrian area, and room for parking. The exterior north wall of the Buchwald Center will also be significantly improved. Some creative ideas from community members are flowing in as well. Whatever fills the space will be considered carefully and will continue to improve the appearance and accessibility of the downtown area.
MVNU is proud to have such a presence in Mount Vernon’s historic downtown. We continue our commitment to supporting the community that has given so much to help us be where we are today. We’re also looking forward to the opening of the new home of MVNU’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences just south of the Buchwald Center later this fall.
Watch for more information soon.
