MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- The swinging tunes of America’s golden age will be brought to Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Saturday, Sept. 11, at 8 p.m. by central Ohio’s foremost 17-piece orchestra, the Rick Brunetto Big Band, as part of the 2010-11 Lecture/Artist series.
The band, lead by Brunetto, has flourished for more than 25 years. It began, according to the members, as
"a means of bringing together some of the area’s best musicians dedicated to the preservation of the Big Band sound.”
Since then, the group has performed at lounges, clubs, hotels, festivals and concerts all around the Columbus area, while continually appearing every Thursday at the 94th Aero Squadron and Fridays at the Vonn Jazz Lounge. They have released four recordings.
Bandleader Brunetto received a bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory Of Music and a master’s in percussion from The Ohio State University. During his career, he’s spent time studying under world-renowned timpanist Fred Hinger, played with the Bob Allen Trio for 13 years, and served as the music department chair at Denison University for seven years. Brunetto, who has performed with numerous orchestras, currently teaches at St. Charles High School and Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
The concert, titled " The Great American Songbook, ” will feature a variety of classic and contemporary pieces that will entertain attendees of all ages. Audience members are sure to love sharing the experience with band members who possess an overwhelming enthusiasm for what they do.
