From there, he received a Master of Arts in teaching from Harvard University in 1961 and an MFA in sculpture from the University of Iowa in 1966. Boyd will continue teaching at open Fluxus Foundation in Fredericktown, Ohio.
Boyd, who has worked as a sculptor since 1962, has maintained a private studio since 1987. He’s been consecutively listed in Who’s Who in the World since 2000, was named the director of Fluxus West in 1975 and has received four Ford Foundation grants.
His personal theory of art involves chance operations, the use of sheep skiver to wrap found objects, intermedia, design principles from the Bauhaus and DeStihl, figurative and non-objective abstraction and numerous materials. Boyd continues to cast bronze.
Boyd initiated the sculpture department at Kenyon College, as well as “Pam Am Clipper,” a public relations magazine for 10,000 employees at Cape Canaveral in 1970. He has written several articles on art and two photo/history books about the area, “Mount Vernon” and “Knox County Bridges.”

Some of his former students have gone on to achieve national prominence. His close personal friends have included artists Dick Higgins, John Cage, Ken Friedman and others.
