ZANESVILLE, Ohio --Zane State College signed an articulation agreement with MVNU on Thursday, Aug. 5, at Zane State College’s Zanesville campus.
The agreement, developed over the last year in collaboration with both institutions, facilitates the transfer of associate degree graduates into MVNU’s bachelor’s degree programs.
CAPTION (L-R): Dr. Paul Brown (seated), President for Zane State College; Dr. Chad Brown, Vice President for Academic Services and Workforce Development; Theresa Kolk, Director of Arts and Sciences Transfer Program; Wayne Uhrig, MVNU Outreach Representative, and Dr. Michael VanZant (seated), Associate Vice President of Academic Programs.
Present for the event from MVNU were Wayne Uhrig, university outreach representative, and Dr. Michael Van Zant, associate vice president of Academic Programs. Representing Zane State College were President Dr. Paul Brown; and Dr. Chad Brown, vice president for academic services and workforce development; and Theresa Kolk, director of arts and sciences transfer program.
The agreement essentially lays out a “road map” for Zane State College students so they know which courses to take in order to fulfill their bachelor’s degree at MVNU. It ensures that Zane State College courses and credits are recognized at MVNU and that the transition is a seamless one for students.
MVNU also holds this same agreement with Marion Technical College, Columbus State Community College, Central Ohio Technical College and North Central State College. Social work agreements are also in place at these institutions and agreements for education are being examined for the future.
With an increasing number of students around the country enrolling at two-year community colleges, MVNU wants to make it easier for these students to continue on their path of education to earn a bachelor’s degree.
Many students opt to attend a community college due to affordability or location. According to a recent article in “The Greentree Gazette,” 6.2 million students are currently enrolled at community colleges, 28 percent of whom say they intend to use it as a stepping stone to a bachelor’s degree.
"Zane State College is extremely happy to continue and add to our current relationship with Mount Vernon Nazarene University. This agreement, along with others already signed, will help our students to continue in their pursuit of their bachelor's degrees at highly regarded universities located close to their own homes,” said Dr. Chad Brown. “We certainly hope and plan to continue to develop this relationship for the benefit of Zane State College, MVNU and, most especially, our students."

Zane State College is a two-year college offering both baccalaureate transfer programs and technical education programs. The Associate of Arts and Associate of Science are designed for students who wish to complete the first two years of a bachelor's degree locally and then transfer to a four-year college or university. The technical programs provide students with the opportunity to earn an associate degree in applied business or science while participating in experienced-based learning in their chosen field with the objective of employment (though program credits are accepted by many colleges and universities).
Established in 1968, MVNU is an intentionally Christian teaching university for traditional age students, graduate students, and working adults who seek opportunities to learn and grow in an academic community of faith. Building upon the strong foundation of its main campus in Mount Vernon, Ohio, the University provides innovative graduate and undergraduate programs for working professionals in conveniently located campuses throughout Ohio.
