MVNU nursing program receives full accreditation
October 12, 2009
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- On Oct. 1, Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s School of Nursing and Health Sciences’ nursing major received official accreditation from the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
"Accreditation is important for the program’s development,” said School Dean Dr. Teresa Wood. “Students benefit from having the assurance that the curriculum, program, faculty and students are meeting the highest standards for baccalaureate nursing education.”
The accreditation focused on the quality of the program’s educational standards aimed at improving the public’s health. Achievement of accreditation is an important way the public and prospective students are informed that MVNU’s nursing program has met national standards for professional nurse education.
CCNE is recognized by the United States Secretary of Education as a national accreditation agency, accrediting baccalaureate and graduate level nurse education programs.
MVNU offers a Bachelor of Science program with a nursing major. The four-year nursing program includes one year of pre-nursing courses. Students should apply for admission to the nursing program during the spring of their pre-nursing year. The mission statement of the MVNU nursing department is: “Educating nurse leaders in a Christ-like environment to meet the healthcare needs of the community through the ministry of nursing.”
The program has grown exponentially since its inception in 2006 with nearly 170 undergraduate students enrolled. Future plans include an online degree completion program for practicing RNs and development of allied health programs in the School.
