An operetta composed in two acts by Mozart in 1791, "The Magic Flute" is one of the most beloved works in the operatic repertoire, and is presently the tenth most frequently performed opera in North America. It was a culmination of a period of increasing involvement by Mozart with Emanuel Schikander's theatrical troup.
A cast of 20 singers, accompanied by pit orchestra, will spin a web of magical fantasy for children and adults alike in this lively, abridged version of the fairy tale classic. The company will also share scenes from "The Magic Flute" that week in area schools. These performances, under the direction of Virginia Cameron, will bring delight to those who hear this classic story retold.
"The Magic Flute" opera embodies the principles of good versus evil, and is designed to highlight both the grandeur and drama of the complete stage as well as the intricacies of individual performances. It’s a classic tale of triumph combining captivating music, humor and fantasy, depicting a prince’s quest to save the princess he loves.
