The play is centered around the seeming madness of two families as one tries to keep their son from marrying the other’s daughter, and the other does their best to do exactly the opposite. The play stresses the significance of being thankful for what we have while engaging the audience in contagious humor and good spirits.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning play, written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, was adapted into a film starring Jimmy Stewart and directed by Frank Capra in 1938. The film earned an Oscar for Best Picture later that same year.

"'You Can't Take It With You' is one of those rare comedies that is as much fun for the cast as it is for the audience," said Dr. Daniel Behr, MVNU communication department chair. "It is filled with wonderfully quirky characters, action, romance, and the laughable clash of class cultures. The students are having a great time preparing to share this classic comic farce with the campus and community."

Performances will be held in Thorne Performance Hall Thursday and Friday, Nov. 5-6, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 and 8 p.m. Tickets can be reserved in advance by calling (740) 397-9000, ext. 1620, or purchased at the door.
