A celebration of art-making and a chance to give back to the art community that supported them as developing artists, alumni donate their works for the exhibit and silent auction, which features paintings, ceramics, prints, collages and photography. Raising nearly $14,000 so far, ArtAlum and the Art Department created an endowment to use the proceeds from the silent auction to support incoming freshmen in beginning their art exploration and current art majors in the production of their senior projects. The endowment was officially named the Crispin Webb Art Scholarship in 2008 in honor of 2002 graduate Crispin Webb who died unexpectedly in November 2006.

The ArtAlum Society was created in 2003 by MVNU graduates Kimberly Rhyan, Katie Lane, Tina Corrigan, Laura Tappen, Melinda Harter and Crispin Webb. As a student, Rhyan personally benefited from an anonymous benefactor who supported her senior art project. This act spurred her and other alumni to begin the endowment to support current art students. This group also develops and facilitates community and support between students and professional artists, and works to create opportunities for growth.

The ArtAlum Society consists of: Tina Corrigan, president; Kim Rhyan, vice president; Melinda Harter, annual exhibit/silent auction chairperson; Heather Ormiston and Katie Lane, exhibit curators; Kimmy Noonen and Sarah Drobnack, graphic design team; Tricia Bowles, student liaison; Andrew Lane, technology chairperson; and Katie D. Lane, at-large member.

Regular gallery hours are Monday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information about upcoming gallery shows, visit www.mvnu.edu/art or contact Gallery Curator Lori Wilkes at (740) 397-3573.
