More than 6,100 attend a greener SonFest in 2008

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- More than 6,100 people, the largest crowd ever, came out to Mount Vernon Nazarene University for SonFest on Saturday, Sept. 13.
Despite the sweltering heat, concert goers enjoyed a great day of music, food, and fun. MVNU partnered with SHOUTfest again this year, a national tour with a diverse line-up of Christian artists.

“Wow! It was simply amazing to look out over the crowd at SonFest. To think of all these people in one place, coming together for one purpose was incredible," said Jennifer Martin, director of Special Events and SonFest organizer. "The involvement from MVNU students and staff was outstanding. The success we experienced was due, in very large part, to these volunteers."
Faithful fans came out in record numbers, with many traveling from out-of-state, to hear Relient K, Thousand Foot Krutch, Family Force 5 and the other artists featured at SonFest. The MVNU Admissions Office brought in over 50 completed applications and nearly 800 inquiry cards as literally hundreds of people stopped by their tent. Festival attendees enjoyed games, radio station giveaways, band merchandise, artist meet-and-greets, and delicious fair food throughout the day.
A new initiative was undertaken this year to make SonFest a more environmentally friendly event. Thanks to student volunteers and a new "single-stream" recycling plan established on campus, MVNU recycled all SonFest plastic, aluminum and glass. Students stayed until 1 a.m. to sort through recycling bins, ensuring no bottle caps or trash were mixed included.
Next year's event will be held on Saturday, Sept. 12. Bring your friends! Watch for announcements about next year's headliner in May 2009. Sign up for the SonFest mailing list.
