For many in this community and others throughout the state, "Messiah" has become as much of a Christmas tradition as reading the Christmas story, decorating the tree and visiting relatives. "I know families who come to 'Messiah' every year like clockwork, some from up to two hours away," said Conductor Dr. Robert Tocheff. "It's a very special privilege to be a part of so many families' traditions; and it’s encouraging that the story of our Messiah is so significant to them.”
The presentation will be performed by the MVNU Choral Union, faculty and guest soloists and a chamber orchestra. Soloists include Dr. David Liles, tenor, and Virginia Cameron, contralto, both from the MVNU music faculty; Jocelyn McDonald Fisher, a professional soprano from Nashville, Tenn.; and David Templeton, a professional singer from Columbus, returning for his tenth year as bass soloist. Dr. John Packard, MVNU music faculty member, and guest musician Todd Stoll, will assist on trumpet. David Robinson will return as the harpsichordist for the performance.
The 160-voice Choral Union includes the combined choirs of MVNU and community singers. Performance conductor Dr. Robert Tocheff also serves as professor of music and director of Collegians Chorale at MVNU.
The program is open to the public without admission charge. Donations will be accepted for MVNU music scholarships. Parking is available from Martinsburg Road and Campus Drive. For more information, contact Tressa Daley at (740) 397-9000, ext. 3000.
