Bible scholar to discuss healing during MVNU visit

Dr. Glenn Stassen
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Celebrated author and educator Dr. Glen Stassen will speak at Mount Vernon Nazarene University on Monday, Sept. 22, at 7:30 pm in Thorne Performance Hall. The title of his lecture will be “The Healing We Need: Matthew 5:21-26.”

The event is free and open to the public. It is the third installment in MVNU’s 2008-09 Lecture/Artist Series.

Stassen teaches at Fuller Theological Seminary in Pasadena, Calif., where he is the Lewis B. Smedes Professor of Christian Ethics. His deep love of scripture, his transparent piety, and his engaging delivery have captured the imaginations of a generation of students.

Among his many achievements, Stassen has received the “Seabury Award for Excellence in Teaching” from Berea College and the “All Seminary Council Faculty Award for Outstanding Community Service to Students” from Fuller Theological Seminary. He has written several books, including “Kingdom Ethics: Following Jesus in Contemporary Context,” a title he co-authored with David Gushee. “Kingdom Ethics” won the Christianity Today Award for Best Book of 2004 in Theology or Ethics.

Before joining the faculty at Fuller, Stassen taught at Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, Berea College, Kentucky Southern College (now part of University of Louisville), Duke University, and was Research Fellow at Harvard University.
