PRESS RELEASE -- October 27, 2008
Painter blends life and art among Romania’s poorest
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Joel Klepac lives, works and paints among street children in Romania.
On Monday, Oct. 27, at 7:30 pm, he will visit the campus of Mount Vernon Nazarene University to share his story of beauty and reconciliation.
Klepec will speak in the Thorne Performance Hall as part of the University’s 2008-09 Lecture/Artist Series, and the event will be free and open to the public.
Klepec is an artist and graduate of Asbury College in Kentucky. He has used his life and art as a ministry to street children and impoverished families in Galati, Romania, with Word Made Flesh for the past eight years. His blog “Art in Community Among the Poor” displays some of his work as he engages life and creates art among the poor.
In July 2000 Klepec and his wife Monica moved to Romania where they led Servant Teams for two years. They helped renovate the drop-in center (Casa la Vale) and boys’ home (Casa Lazar) and served as house parents in the boys’ home from 2003-06. The Klepecs still live and work in Romania with their sons, Simeon and Abram.
