Three WNZR student staffers honored in national broadcast competition
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene University broadcasting students Patrick Neville and Nolan Donegan, along with graphic design student Adam Jackman, were recently honored at the National Religious Broadcasters Convention in Nashville, Tenn., for their participation in the 2008 Intercollegiate National Religious Broadcasters (INRB) student competition.
Neville, a senior broadcasting major from Mount Sterling, Ohio, placed second in the Radio PSA (public service announcement) category. Neville serves on WNZR’s leadership team as the production director, and produced a PSA called “Who’s Blocking for You?” which addressed the importance of personal responsibility in dating relationships. "I'm really honored to be included among the top student broadcasters across the country,” said Neville. “It really shows me how well WNZR is preparing me for my future. I am happy I was able to take something close to my heart and be able to share it with others through the ministry of radio."
Donegan, a senior broadcasting major from Howard, Ohio, placed third in the Radio News category for a daily newscast that included national, state and local news, plus sound clips. “I'm just thankful for the opportunity God has given me to be in radio, especially at Mount Vernon Nazarene University,” said Donegan. “This award is a big encouragement.”
Jackman, a senior graphic design major from Warren, Pa., placed second in the Internet category for his revised design and layout of the station’s Web site, www.wnzr.fm. Jackman serves on the station’s leadership team as Web site/graphic design director. "WNZR has been a challenging, yet rewarding experience,” said Jackman. “I am blessed to have the opportunity to gain design experience while being a part of an awesome ministry."
The intercollegiate branch of NRB is committed to promoting excellence and integrity, and providing a forum for student and faculty members to network and share ideas and goals. Each year, many student members submit entries to the Student Production Awards competition. There are five radio categories, five video categories and one Internet category in which students compete with their peers from other colleges and universities.
