Nearly 300 to graduate from MVNU in December
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene University will hold a winter Commencement ceremony on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 10:30 a.m., in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium.
Dr. Tomas Parks, dean for the School of Business at MVNU, will be the featured speaker. He will address 298 traditional undergraduates, and adult and graduate students.
Degree breakdowns for MVNU’s 2007 winter Commencement include: 1 Associate of Arts, 2 Associate of Applied Science, 32 Bachelor of Arts, 7 Bachelor of Science, 161 Bachelor of Business Administration, 2 Master of Ministry, 56 Master of Arts in Education, 33 Master of Science in Management and 4 Master of Business Administration. The traditional undergraduate class represents 34 academic majors from 8 states, including California and Hawaii. One Adult and Graduate Studies student is from Canada.
Commencement speaker Dr. Parks has served at MVNU since 2003. At MVNU, he has been especially instrumental in developing and leading annual trip for business students to places such as Central America, Korea and Kenya, where they learn about conducting business on a global scale, including the importance of cultural differences, modes of entry, strategic marketing strategies, strategic human resource strategies and international business theories.
Parks holds a B.S. from the University of Akron, an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix and a Ph.D. from Kent State University. He is a professional member of the Academy of Management, the Christian Business Faculty Association and the Strategic Management Society. He previously served as assistant professor at Pennsylvania State University and Azusa Pacific University, and as instructor at Cleveland State University.
As a Christian business faculty member, Parks has authored or co-authored several publications, including, “The Emergence of Strategic Marking,” “The Impact of Foreign Nations on Organizational Performance” and “Implementing Competitive Intelligence at a Non-profit University.” He has also presented at numerous conferences and professional gatherings across the country.
Parks and his wife Nancy, residents of Sunbury, Ohio, have two grown children, Tomas Jr. and Elyse.
