Instrumental ensemble showcased in spring concert

Spring Recital
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene University will present the MVNU Symphonic Wind Ensemble in concert on Tuesday, April 15, at 7:30 p.m., in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Fine Arts Center.

This event is free and open to the public.

The Symphonic Wind Ensemble, directed by John Packard, is MVNU’s largest instrumental ensemble. This 35-member group includes students representing several states, academic majors and various denominational backgrounds, as well as local community players.

Concert highlights include Joy Revisited by Frank Ticheli, Power and Glory by John Philip Sousa, At Morning’s First Light by David Gillingham, When Spirits Soar by Brian Balmages, Held Still in Quick of Grace by Jack Stamp and The March from 1941 by John Williams, adapted for band by Paul Lavender.

The Flute Choir, directed by Dr. Emily Butterfield, and the String Ensemble, directed by Sharon Blaydes, will also perform.
