Treble Singers and Chamber Winds perform variety of music for spring concert

Treble Singers Women's Choir
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- The Mount Vernon Nazarene University Music Department will present a free concert for springtime featuring the Treble Singers Women's Choir and Chamber Winds on Saturday, April 26, at 7:30 p.m. in Thorne Performance Hall, located within the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Fine Arts Center.

The ensembles will join forces to perform spring tour favorites including “A Festive Call to Praise,” “I Go to the Rock” and “Be Still and Know.”

"Gabi, Gabi,” a South African praise song; the Stanislav Gribkov arrangement of “Birch Tree” sung in Russian; and Jester Hairston's setting of “Elijah Rock” will be presented by Treble Singers alongside film favorites, “Seize the Day” and “Over the Rainbow.”

The Treble Singers, with seniors Allison Cass of Pataskala and Taryn Watkins of Dover, will round out a spring semester of two tour weekends and a Choral Union performance. Katie Miller of Centerburg is choir accompanist and will be joined by Wil Bogantz, bass, and Nicolas Felizzola, drumset. Dr. Stan Wood, a music faculty member since 1985, directs the Treble Singers.

The Chamber Winds Woodwind Ensemble will feature the arrangements “Brethren, We Have Met to Worship” and “Shenandoah.” The Chamber Winds Brass Ensemble will perform several arrangements of the Canadian Brass including “Amazing Grace,” featuring senior trumpeter Brad Jerew. They will also perform an arrangement by Robert Nagel, “Voluntary on All Creatures of Our God & King,” recorded by Nagel's King's Brass. The MVNU Chamber Winds is directed by Dr. John Packard.
