MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene University has experienced another record enrollment year—for the 16th year in a row.

The 2007 total enrollment hit 2,675, combining total undergraduate, adult and graduate student populations. This is 1,000 more students than were enrolled ten years ago.

This Year's Freshmen
The total enrollment includes 1,405 traditional undergraduate students. New students numbered 428, of which 351 are first-time freshmen and 77 are transfer students. This year also represents the highest residential student enrollment ever with 1,093 students living on campus and the second-highest traditional undergraduate enrollment ever.

"I am grateful for another outstanding enrollment year,” stated MVNU President Dr. Dan Martin. “In the traditional undergraduate freshman class,” he continued, “we added 7 valedictorians, 31 children of pastors and 20 multicultural and international students to our academic community of faith."

Other features of this year’s freshman class include 46 students from Knox County and over 40 athletes. Their average ACT score is over 22, and 18 percent graduated within the top 10 percent of their high school class. Freshmen also represent 38 denominational affiliations, 51 different majors and four countries/U.S. territories: Canada, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Argentina.

Educational Value
"This fall's enrollment reflects the value students and parents place on the pursuit of higher education in a distinctively Christian environment,” said Dr. J. Keith Newman, vice president for University Relations. “Our commitment to the integration of faith and learning remains a priority and we are grateful that students continue to embrace MVNU’s life-changing experience.”

In addition to cultural diversity initiatives and increased student financial assistance, MVNU also began a new post-secondary enrollment option at Troy Christian High School, implemented a new evening social work program, opened a new adult and graduate facility in Mansfield, and started new blended online programs in business.
