PRESS RELEASE -- April 24-25 and May 2-3, 2008

MVNU's Miser brings slapstick to spring

The Miser
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Mount Vernon Nazarene University is pleased to announce its spring play, Moliere’s “The Miser.” There will be four shows: Thursday and Friday, April 24 and 25 and Friday and Saturday, May 2 and 3.

All performances will be at 8 p.m., held in the Thorne Performance Hall, located within the R.R. Hodges Chapel on the MVNU campus.

About the Play
“The Miser” is a comedic tale of an old money lender who is trying to marry his children off, and how the children do their best to resist his efforts. The play also includes secret love, hidden identities and plenty of laughter.

"It’s certainly a slapstick comedy, and that’s something you don’t see much in theater today,” said student director Christopher Johnson, a junior drama major form Versailles, Ohio. “There is a lot of physical and action-based humor, which goes along with the dialogue. It’s a slapstick thrill ride from beginning to end.”

The Actors
The play stars Aaron Widmar, a sophomore English and drama major from Broadview Heights, Ohio, as Harpagon, the miser. Élise will be played by Lydia Kuhn, a freshman social work major from Celina, Ohio. In the cast as Valère will be Brian Church, a senior accounting and communications studies major from Georgetown, Ohio. Bronwyn Mroczkowski, an East Knox post-secondary student from Howard, Ohio, will fill the role of Marianne. The Miser also features Asa Cormier, a freshman music and drama major from Mount Vernon, Ohio, as Cleante.

Tickets
Ticket prices are $5 for adults, $4 for students and $3 for children 12 and under. Call (740) 397-9000, ext. 1620, to reserve tickets, or they are available at the door.
