Jazz pianist Sowash to showcase talents in MVNU concert
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- Renowned jazz pianist Bradley Sowash will perform at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in connection with its year-long Lecture/Artist Series.
The event will take place on Monday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m., in the Thorne Performance Hall and is free and open to the public.
Sowash is the author of a three-volume jazz piano method book titled That’s Jazz. He directs The Jazz Workshop, which is part of Ohio’s Chamber Music Connection. Sowash also makes regular appearances on the PBS television series “The Piano Guy,” and his music has been heard on the National Public Radio show “Morning Edition.”
All of Sowash’s concerts contain a few familiar standards, yet he is most recognized for instilling feelings into his original compositions that words leave untouched. An emotional style and formidable technique have prompted favorable reviews in national publications. He is also known for his personal commentaries during performances, entertaining and moving audiences as he shares his life experiences as a musician, parent and world traveler.
Sowash received his degree from The Ohio State University in music composition. He then went to work in New York City for several years. He later returned to Ohio to raise his family in “the warm embrace of the Midwest.” He currently maintains a private studio with students ranging from ages 9 to 57 and teaches music skills in The Ohio State University Department of Dance.
