Jazz Band livens up spring concerts at MVNU
MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- The Mount Vernon Nazarene University Music Department will present the Jazz Band in their spring concert on Monday, April 28, at 7:30 p.m. in the R.R. Hodges Chapel Auditorium. The community is invited to attend this free event.
The 16-piece band, under the direction of Mr. Rick Brunetto, will present a program of swing and classic rock music spanning 50 years. Count Basie’s “88 Basie Street” will feature Brent Slisher at the piano, and alto saxophonist Derrick Meyer will solo on the Earle Hagen classic “Harlem Nocturne.” Also featured will be trumpeter Chris Gherman and tenor saxophonist Jeff McRill on “All The Things You Are.” The band will then shift gears as they perform “What Is Hip” by Tower of Power, a popular ‘70s classic rock horn band, and “Takin’ It To The Streets” by the Doobie Brothers.
The Jazz Band is one of seven instrumental ensembles at MVNU. They perform their own fall and spring concerts and join with the other ensembles in various events including the annual May gazebo concert. Members represent a variety of academic majors and denominational backgrounds.
