Annual awards convocation honors ahievement at MVNU

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio -- MVNU's annual Awards Convocation was held Wednesday, May 7, in the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium.

This is a special event that honors students, faculty and staff who have dedicated themselves to the pursuit of excellence in learning and service throughout the academic year.

Service Above Self Awards - Jacob Bush and Julianne Meinecke
Each year, one male and one female student receive the honor of being given the Service Above Self Award. Students are selected based on academic excellence, campus involvement, off-campus activities, and service to others.

President's Award for Excellence in Teaching - Jim Harriman and Jan Hendrickx
Every year, a faculty member of Mount Vernon Nazarene University is awarded this honor. Three faculty members are chosen by the Student Government Association, who are then reviewed and chosen by the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the President. The recipient of this award demonstrates a Christ-centered teaching style, passion for his/her area of study, rapport with the students and an excitement and love for teaching.

Staff Member of the YearGina Blanchard
The staff and students of MVNU nominate other staff members whom they feel have an outstanding work ethic, contribute greatly to the campus, interact with and positively influence MVNU students, and exemplify a Christ-like attitude in all they do. The entire staff then votes on the nominees. This year's recipient is Gina Blanchard, manager of the Cougar Corner bookstore.
