____Adult and Graduate Studies Leadership

Dr. Frank E. Johnson

Dr. Frank E. Johnson, associate vice president for Adult and Graduate Studies, sees Mount Vernon Nazarene University emerging as a school of renown--a "regional university with a global vision."

After receiving his bachelor’s degree in history teaching/social studies from Olivet Nazarene University and his graduate degree in U.S. and religious history from Michigan State University, Johnson began his mission to serve in 1996 at MidAmerica Nazarene University (MNU) where he worked his way from an assistant professor to professor of history. While at MNU, Johnson was given the opportunity to travel to many of the universities in the U.S. and some in other countries. It was during these travels that he first became acquainted with MVNU and formed relationships with faculty and staff.

After MNU, Johnson transplanted himself and his family—wife Terri and two daughters, Mary, now a junior at MNU, and Rachael, a freshman at MNU—to Sterling, Kan., where he took the position as director of Instrumental Effectiveness at Sterling College. In June 2006, he was promoted to vice president of Academic Affairs. Less than a year later, he received a call from MVNU President Dr. Dan Martin, asking him to consider lending a hand as the associate vice president for Adult and Graduate Studies. After much prayer and consideration, he accepted.

As one can imagine, Johnson is an extremely busy man. His duties include providing leadership to the AGS staff and students at all campuses and aligning AGS with MVNU’s mission, vision and goals. His job is to be an ambassador for AGS, meet the needs of students in a holistic manner, provide leadership to all operations and, most important, help build the kingdom of God.

&My vision for AGS is to serve as we go forward, go to places that we’ve never been before, provide educational opportunities that have not been offered and reach those we have not reached,” explained Dr. Johnson. “Our goal is to provide relevant and relational programs, to find and meet the needs of working adults.”
