____About Adult and Graduate Studies

Adult and Graduate Studies (AGS) at Mount Vernon Nazarene University provides an opportunity for adults to obtain a quality education in a learning environment emphasizing Christian values and ethical standards. Within this context, MVNU serves as a resource for adults seeking to enhance their personal and professional lives in a constantly changing world.

Because Adult and Graduate Studies students have significant work experience and career aspirations, the Adult and Graduate Studies approach to education creates a stimulating learning environment that has immediate application. Adult and Graduate Studies programs are designed to provide educational value in multiple ways:

  • Programs are designed for students to focus on one course at a time by attending class just once a week in a professional environment.
  • Courses are written from an integrated perspective so that the content of one course builds on the content of previous courses.
  • Instructors do more than just deliver information; they engage adults in interacting with the information and making it personally relevant.
  • Services take all the hassle out of earning a college degree by simplifying tasks, from registration to the delivery of textbooks to the classroom.

Adult and Graduate Studies instructors are knowledgeable leaders in their industry, hold a master's or doctoral degree, and are evangelical Christians seeking to improve the lives of others through education. This unique combination gives our instructors an edge in providing a meaningful learning experience that integrates theory with practical application — all within a Christian context.

Adult and Graduate Studies part-time instructors do not write or develop curriculum. Curriculum has already been written by curriculum experts to maximize the student learning experience, by focusing on theory and skills that lead to career success. Curriculum is designed so students are active in, and responsible for, their own learning. Additionally, the curriculum is continually updated to stay current with industry changes.

Mount Vernon Nazarene University recognizes that working adults have specialized educational needs that include admission to the University, registration for courses, support services, design of instruction, and scheduling of courses that differ from the programs commonly associated with traditional, residential undergraduate education. To support this critical need, Adult and Graduate Studies has been created and designed to focus the energies of the University on delivering Life Changing Educational Programs for Adults.
