Labor Day Weekend wasn't your typical holiday weekend for MVNU's new students. More thjan 400 freshmen, transfer, and commuter students began the academic year with a bang. New residential students moved in on Friday, and the entire class of new students gathered together on Saturday, Aug. 30, for Cougar Student Institute (CSI). Morning sessions were hosted by the Student Development Division with presentations by Multicultural Affairs and Residence Life Office as well as the popular Student Life session, presented by the Student Government Association (SGA)
After lunch, the students gathered in the Grove for some group activities that focused on getting to know one another as well as sharing why students chose MVNU and what they hope to achieve on their way toward graduation.
The students were then asked to brainstorm and come up with an idea for a group picture that would be taken from 40 feet in the air. The students then organized themselves into the shape of a stick figure carrying a torch, with the letters MVNU off to the side.
After the group picture, it was time to have some fun and, since no Labor Day weekend would be complete without a cookout, we loaded buses and went across town to the Mount Vernon Water Park. The afternoon was full of sand volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, kickball, swimming and conversation. The Campus Ministries team was grilling the hotdogs and students would eat, then go play, and then eat a little more. As the sun was setting, we loaded the buses and headed back to campus. It was a long day, but we all had a blast!
