Undergraduate Nursing Program

Program Admission Requirements

  • Active, unencumbered license as a registered nurse (RN) in Ohio
  • Graduate of a nationally accredited associate degree or diploma nursing program
  • A minimum cumulative GPA of 2.50 or higher on a 4.00 scale in all previous college course work
  • American Heart Association Health Care Provider CPR certification
  • Proficiency in the English language (minimum score of 80 on the TOEFL iBT Test, if needed)
  • Complete immunization record

Admission Process

  1. Complete the online admissions application for the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Nursing program.
  2. Request official transcripts from each college and university that you have attended. Please note that we can only accept original (no copies), sealed transcripts sent directly to MVNU by each sending institution. Please ask that all official transcripts be mailed to:
    • Mount Vernon Nazarene University (GPS)
    • Attn: Application Specialist
    • 1350 Granville Road
    • Newark, OH 43055

Once your transcripts have been received and evaluated, MVNU will notify you of your transcript audit results. If you meet all admission requirements and have been accepted into the program, you will then be assisted through the enrollment process.

  3. Financing your college education can be overwhelming but, if you are proactive and explore your financial aid opportunities fully, you may be able to reduce your cost. You can pay for your degree in many ways, so taking the time to apply for fnancial assistance from as many sources as possible is worth the effort.

In addition to completing your online admissions application, you should also complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online at www.fafsa.gov. MVNU's school code is E00782. Completing the FAFSA is an important step in the fnancial aid process and is required for any financial aid to be awarded. Also, applications that contain incorrect information will delay the approval process, so accuracy is extremely important!

Prior to Practicum

Before participating in practicum, the School of Nursing will assist you to obtain each of the following items (paid for via student resource fees):
  • Drug screening (results must be negative)
  • Criminal background check (must not show evidence of anything that would adversely affect your ability to participate in practicum)
  • Malpractice insurance
