Mount Vernon Nazarene University: Life Changing
Institute of 21st Century Church Leadership

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an associate pastor or lay leader apply?
i21 is designed for lead pastors.  However, if a lead pastor would like to have a staff member or lay leader participate along with him/her that is fine.

Are there scholarships available?
MVNU is subsidizing the cost to make it as affordable as possible for pastors and churches, therefore none are available through MVNU.  However, most districts have agreed to set aside some funds to be able to further support pastors who participate.  Please contact your district office for more information.

Are there any restrictions or guidelines for the size or makeup of cohorts?
Cohorts will be a minimum of 6 and maximum of 18.  If there are more than10, the cohort will be further divided into smaller groups for interaction and projects.  There are no guidelines on makeup; however we’re hopeful that each cohort will include pastors with varied experiences.

Is this a degree program, or is academic recognition offered?
Due to accrediting guidelines, i21 can offer no official academic credit.  i21 sessions can be counted toward Continuing Education Units.  Also, some Master’s programs will give a few hours of credit for these sessions.

Where will the sessions take place?
We are using three primary locations: Mount Vernon Nazarene University’s Bailey Conference room; The North Central Ohio district conference room, in Mount Vernon;  and Cedar Lakes Conference Center, in Ripley, WV.  Overnight lodging when in Mount Vernon will usually be at the Holiday Inn Express.

Is there any refund if I have to drop out of the program part-way through the first year?
There is not a set amount we can refund, but we’ll do our best to refund some.  We will work with each student based on the timing, situation, and expenses incurred on our end to that point in preparation for upcoming sessions.

Do i21 sessions count for CEU credits?
Yes. Each session (cohort & elective) is good for 1.0 CEU.  If you desire CEU credit for a session, please let us know prior to Day 1 of that session.
