Mount Vernon Nazarene University
Students are limited to one semester-long, non-MVNU off-campus study (OCS) program during their time at MVNU. If a student is granted an exception, the entire program cost will be his/her responsibility, along with any administrative costs assessed by MVNU as it deems appropriate. If a student is dismissed from an OCS program for any reason, the cost of returning home before the end of the program will be borne entirely by the student and there is no guarantee that the student will earn credit for academic work performed. The total number of students who can study in any OCS program is constrained by the financial resources available for such programs; thus, application does not guarantee approval.
Most requests for OCS pertain to programs that coincide with MVNU’s fall or spring semester and may be categorized as (1) MVNU-accredited, (2) Nazarene Consortium, or (3) MVNU-affiliated.
Currently, MVNU operates two programs: the Urban Ministry Semester and the Costa Rica Program. Please consult the Student Accounts Office for cost information regarding the Urban Ministry Semester. For the Costa Rica program, students are charged for MVNU tuition; and an OCS program fee that is comprised of an $850 fee plus a semester’s cost of MVNU room ($1,950) and board ($1,540.) For 2013-2014, the OCS program fee is thus $4,340. A non-refundable $100 application fee is also required and is applied to the program cost, upon acceptance to the program. Transportation to/from Costa Rica is covered by the program budget. If airfare is purchased for the student prior to the student’s cancelation, the student will be billed for the full value of the airfare, less any deposit paid. Students who participate in this program continue to receive MVNU financial aid, up to the value of MVNU tuition.
2. Nazarene Consortium
MVNU allows students to cross-register for a semester with a participating member of the Nazarene Consortium (host institution). Students will take classes at and live on the campus of the host institution. (The terms of this program are found in the "Cross-Registration Agreement for Nazarene Colleges and Universities," a copy of which is available from the Student Financial Services Office.) The student will be billed by MVNU for MVNU tuition; the room, board and fees of the host institution; and a $500 administrative fee. A non-refundable $100 application fee is also required and is applied to the program cost, upon acceptance to the program. Any amount billed by MVNU in excess of tuition is forwarded to the host institution. Students who participate in this program continue to receive MVNU financial aid, up to the value of MVNU tuition.
Students may earn MVNU credit by participating in OCS programs offered by other institutions. Typically, these programs are sponsored by the CCCU; other programs require prior approval by MVNU before the student can make application. Participation requires an application process and prior approval by MVNU. (See the Off-Campus Study section of the MVNU Catalog for a listing of approved programs.) Students are charged for MVNU tuition; and an OCS program fee that is comprised of an $850 fee plus a semester’s cost of MVNU room ($1,950) and board ($1,540.) For 2013-2014, the OCS program fee is thus $4,340. A non-refundable $100 application fee is required and is applied to the program cost upon acceptance to the program. Students must also pay separately for any airfare that is associated with the MVNU-affiliated program. Participants in these programs continue to receive MVNU financial aid, up to the value of MVNU tuition.
CCTECC Programs: Participants are charged for MVNU tuition, room, and board. Participants also pay a non-refundable MVNU application fee of $100; a $375 program fee (which covers the cost of the CCTECC orientation); $100 to their overseas supervisor; and $100 to the cooperating teacher. Participants are responsible for costs associated with travel and transportation to/from the overseas site, as well as room and board at the overseas site. Participants continue to receive MVNU financial aid, up to the value of MVNU tuition.
J-Term or Summer School Programs
MVNU financial aid is not apportioned for any OCS program during January-term or Summer School. Typically, the cost of these programs is billed as a separate course fee. (In the case of the International Business Institute, the cost is billed as tuition and fees.) Prior to making application, students should consult with the Student Financial Services Office to determine the cost and any other requirements. A $100 non-refundable application fee is required and is applied to the program cost, upon acceptance to the program.
