Mount Vernon Nazarene University

Mount Vernon Nazarene University

Greetings from the President

Dr. Henry Spaulding II

I would like to invite you, on behalf of the faculty, staff, and administration, to explore this catalog as an invitation to an intentionally Christian education framed by a liberal arts context. Since 1968, Mount Vernon Nazarene University has sought to provide an environment defined by faith, academics, and service. The programs described herein detail specific ways in which the faculty will seek to prepare you for professional employment, graduate school, and service to the world as critically engaged Christians. According to Proverbs 19:2, "Desire without knowledge is not good, and one who moves too hurriedly misses the way." Let me encourage you to take the time during the years you spend with us to seek wisdom. These years will require discipline and sacrifice, but the result will be a character that is capable of meaningful engagement with the world.

Let me share with you the core convictions of MVNU:

Mount Vernon Nazarene University is an intentionally Christian community, framed by the Wesleyan-Holiness tradition, seeking to fulfill its educational mission, as defined by the following core convictions:

  • Vital faith that permeates the life of the University.
  • Vigorous partnership with the Church of the Nazarene.
  • Active engagement with the broader Christian community.
  • A quality, holistic education, guided by the liberal arts tradition and professional excellence.
  • Character as an expression of the moral formation inherent in our educational mission.
  • Responsible stewardship of the resources entrusted to the University.

These convictions reflect the level of seriousness with which we undertake our educational mission. It is my sincere hope that you will find in these pages sufficient direction for the quality education that we envision. It is my hope that you find Mount Vernon Nazarene University life transforming.

Sincerely,

Henry W. Spaulding, II

President
