Overall Site Plan

Master PlanThis Master Plan was undertaken to study the facility needs of Mount Vernon Nazarene University and to address these needs through a long-range plan. It should be noted that a master plan is not a detailed photograph of the future. Rather, it is a watercolor painting of what might be. A master plan cannot identify all of the unseen challenges that lie ahead, but it does identify a destination and helps us stay the course along our journey.

Main Entry

Main EntryYou never have a second chance to make a good first impression. This is true not only for people, but it also applies to our environment. The master plan places emphasis on the creation of a new main entrance to the MVNU campus by depicting an entry environment and sequence that is certain and appealing.

Welcome Center

Welcome CenterA welcome center should be a place that is inviting and secure. It should offer a sense of comfort and create anticipation for what might lie beyond.

Campus Center

Campus CenterYour living room is that unique place in your home where you can put your feet up and relax. Where you might enjoy a visit with a good friend or a good book. The new campus plan is designed to strengthen and define that comforting, living room feeling.

Circulation

CirculationMount Vernon Nazarene University has been blessed with a beautiful setting for its campus. As the university population grows, it is imperative that we protect and maintain this pastoral setting.

Academic Space

Academic SpaceJust as education is central to the mission of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, supporting education is central to its master plan. As the traditional student population grows, this plan anticipates the required growth in academic instruction and support spaces.

Chapel Connection

Chapel ConnectionThe R.R. Hodges Chapel is the flagship of the campus and the architectural symbol of the university’s calling. It is the image that greets guests as they approach campus. The master plan seeks to maintain the chapel’s role at the main entrance while reinforcing its relationship to the heart of the campus.

Residences

ResidencesAs MVNU grows and adapts, so must its approach to student housing. The master plan recommends additional residences, the refurbishment of the existing units and the improvement or addition of amenities like student recreation.

Athletic Facilities

Athletic FacilitiesIntercollegiate competition is an important part of the university experience. Cougar Pride is not only about an exciting athletic program, but about being a part of a thriving university community. Providing adequate centers for indoor and outdoor varsity and intramural athletic programs will foster Cougar Spirit.
