Intramural AthleticsPurpose: Recreational Sports are a desirable part of a student's education. At Mount Vernon Nazarene University, it is our hope that through participation, individuals will develop an appreciation of this use of leisure time and a wholesome attitude toward physical activity for recreational purposes. In the end, the intramural program strives to provide leadership opportunities for its participants. It is our goal that intramurals' will be used as a learning tool and a developmental resource to build character, self-discipline, and leadership qualities that are Christian based. WHO can participate in intramurals? Any traditional undergraduate student who is currently enrolled at Mount Vernon Nazarene University may participate. On campus faculty and staff members are also encouraged to participate however the maximum number of faculty or staff members allowed on one team roster is three per. Spouses of residential staff members are considered “staff” since they are required to live on campus. Lastly, varsity athletes are not allowed to participate in the same sport in intramurals, i.e. a varsity basketball player is not allowed to participate in intramural basketball. The exception is that a senior varsity athlete who has completed his last varsity season is allowed to participate in any intramural sport throughout the rest of the school year however the maximum number of senior varsity athletes allowed on one team roster is two. Red shirt varsity athletes fall under the varsity athlete rule. The above intramural eligibility guidelines are effective as of 10-17-05. Intramural Activities
